Jamaica

There is no place in the world quite like Jamaica. Located south of Cuba and west of Hispaniola, Jamaica is the birthplace of reggae music and home to superstars such as Bob Marley and Usain Bolt, but Jamaica is known for more than the talent it produces. Before gaining its independence in 1962, Jamaica was governed by the United Kingdom and was a major export of products such as sugar cane, fruits like banana, coconut and grapefruit and of course, coffee. Today, Jamaica has a population of nearly 3 million people and a landmass of 10,991 km2 (or 4,244 sq miles). Holding the title of the third largest island in the Caribbean, Jamaica is however, arguably, the most famous. With picturesque mountains, a number of cascading waterfalls and rivers and white sand beaches, Jamaica is an island rich not only in its widely celebrated culture, but also its unmatched beauty.
