It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Robert Hamaty, our beloved founder of Tortuga Rum Company, as he soared to heaven on his final flight over the weekend.
Captain Hamaty, an airline pilot and serial entrepreneur, will be forever remembered for his kind heart and tremendous impact he had on so many in both his native Jamaica and his adopted home in Cayman, where he has lived since 1978. Together with his wife, Carlene, who was with him until the very end, built the highly-successful and world-renowned Caribbean empire that is known and loved by millions around the world. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Captain Hamaty, know of his extraordinary life accomplishments, and his spirit will forever live in the foundations of Tortuga.
